Camouflage FAQ’s

1. What is scar camouflage?

Scar camouflage is a specialized tattooing technique that blends scars with the surrounding skin by implanting pigment that matches your natural skin tone. This process can make scars less noticeable, helping to restore confidence.

2. What is dark circle camouflage?

Dark circle camouflage is a cosmetic tattooing technique designed to reduce the appearance of dark under-eye circles by implanting pigment that matches your natural skin tone. This treatment helps to blend the darker areas with the surrounding skin, creating a more even and refreshed look.

3. What is inkless scar revision?

Inkless scar revision is a technique that improves the appearance of scars without the use of pigment. This method often involves microneedling or other skin treatments that stimulate the body’s natural healing process, promoting collagen production to soften and smooth the scar tissue.

4. Which types of scars and dark circles can be treated with camouflage or inkless revision?

Both techniques can be used on a variety of scars, including surgical scars, stretch marks, acne scars, and traumatic scars. Dark circle camouflage is ideal for individuals with persistent dark under-eye circles. The suitability of each method depends on factors such as the area’s size, depth, and color.

5. Is this treatment suitable for all skin tones, including dark skin?

Yes, both scar and dark circle camouflage, as well as inkless scar revision, are suitable for all skin tones, including dark skin. During your consultation, we carefully select or mix pigments that match your natural skin tone to ensure the best possible results. The treatment is customized to each individual, taking into account skin tone, texture, and the specific characteristics of the area being treated.

6. How long does the procedure take?

The duration depends on the size and complexity of the area being treated. Scar camouflage and inkless scar revision sessions typically last between 1 to 3 hours, while dark circle camouflage usually takes 1 to 2 hours. Some treatments may require multiple sessions for optimal results.

7. Is the procedure painful?

Most clients report minimal discomfort during the procedure. Numbing agents are applied to ensure comfort throughout the process, whether for scar camouflage, dark circle camouflage, or inkless scar revision.

8. How soon will I see results?

Results from both scar and dark circle camouflage can often be seen immediately, though the final appearance will become apparent after the healing process, which takes about 4 to 6 weeks. Inkless scar revision results may take longer to appear as the skin heals and regenerates.

9. Are the results permanent?

While these treatments are considered permanent, the results can change and soften over time, as traditional body tattoos fade over time.  The pigment from camouflage treatments can fade over time, especially with sun exposure, and may require touch-ups every few years. Inkless scar revision results can also diminish over time due to typical skin changes and aging, though they are generally long-lasting.

10. How long do the results last?

Scar and dark circle camouflage results can last several years, but they may require touch-ups as your skin changes. Inkless scar revision results depend on your skin’s response and the nature of the scar, but improvements are typically long-lasting.

11. What happens to the results after sun exposure?

Sun exposure can affect the longevity and appearance of both scar and dark circle camouflage results. For scar camouflage, prolonged sun exposure can cause the pigment to fade faster and alter the color over time. For dark circle camouflage, tanning can create a contrast between the treated area and tanned skin, making the under-eye area appear lighter. Protecting the treated areas with sunscreen and minimizing sun exposure is crucial for maintaining results.

12. What happens if I get a tan after the procedure?

If you tan after the procedure, there may be a noticeable contrast between the treated area and the surrounding skin. For scar camouflage, this could make the scar more noticeable as the surrounding skin darkens. For dark circle camouflage, the contrast could make the under-eye area appear lighter than the rest of your face. However, this contrast should still be less noticeable than it was prior to having the treatment done. To maintain and improve the appearance of your results, it’s advisable to protect your skin from tanning, particularly in treated areas, or use a self-tanner that can be blended evenly.

13. Are there any risks or side effects?

Both procedures are generally safe when performed by a skilled technician. Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, and tenderness in the treated area. Infection is rare but possible, so it’s important to follow aftercare instructions closely.

14. How do I care for my skin after the procedure?

Aftercare is crucial for optimal results. Keep the area clean, avoid sun exposure, swimming, and strenuous exercise for a few days. For dark circle camouflage, avoid applying makeup or skincare products around the eyes for a few days. Detailed aftercare instructions will be provided to ensure the best results.

15. Can camouflage and inkless revision be combined?

Yes, in some cases, a combination of techniques may be recommended to achieve the best possible outcome. This can include combining scar camouflage with inkless scar revision or dark circle camouflage with other treatments like microneedling or fillers.

16. How do I know if I’m a good candidate for these treatments?

A consultation is the best way to determine if you’re a good candidate. We will evaluate the area, discuss your goals, and recommend the most suitable treatment option based on your skin type and the characteristics of your scar or dark circles.

17. How much do the procedures cost?

The cost varies depending on the size and type of area being treated, as well as the number of sessions required. We provide a detailed quote during the consultation once we’ve assessed your individual needs.
